has anyone ever tried to make a dry cluch one a kr1s?
does anyone know if it is possible?
i want to try to make a dry cluch one of my kr1s.
let me know if you have any experience with a dry cluch.

besides, it's not worth all the trouble.
just put THIS on the bike and it'll give you the same Ducati-noise

Anything is possible with enough time and money.

The NSR or RS250 h***a dry clutches would be the best fitment. I just looked at the spare clutch I have for the RS250, and it is about the same diameter so you could use the plates and outer basket. You would need to make an adapter to make the input gear to the gearbox fit the clutch basket and a new main shaft for the gearbox to take the h***a clutch inner spline and increase the length. Then make a new clutch cover to house the release mechanism.

You might get about 1or 2 bhp gain from not running the basket through the gearbox oil.

As smithy says just needs time and money, plus a few machine tools, a bit of skill and good luck

HERE is good friend of the Institutes and Master machinist Alex(ax-racing) from Modena in Italy went about it.

Seems to me dry clutching lets you use decent gear oil for the gearbox without worrying about clutch slip.
Can you run a standard wet clutch dry with standard parts or do you need to get special basket\plates etc.?

Nope you cannot run a wet clutch dry. The metal plates are too thin, they rely on the oil to carry the heat away.

The material of the friction linings is basically paper and this needs the oil to prevent burning during engagements.

You might get one or two engagements out of a wet clutch run without oil before it catastrophically failed, but I reckon that would be about it.

You can run proper gear oil in a two stroke, you just have to use the proper stuff. you can use any oil developed for wet DCT's or conventional automatics. The fully synthetics from newer transmissions are about the best you can get at the moment, but are around 10~13$ per litre.

That little RZ/RD project is a hum doozy....

Mind you a 154mm clutch is a bit big for an RD. Unless of course it is 700cc or something. I got the impression it was still a 350 though.

I think I would have gone the TZ route, better chance of parts fitting, less plates so better acceleration.

where do you stop the devlopment - aftermarket cylinders, how much RZ is left?

more likely a 250cc 2T donor clutch would be MUCH lighter weight, more likely a suitable reduction ratio/centers than some diesel application transplant

Alex hacked the back off an RZ 350 engine to fit it into the TZ frame, pretty sure his neighbour Stefano( DRT ) made the pipes if he didn;t make them himself.
