Engine slow to pick up

Hi, Im need of help My KR1s seems to have a totally random state of tune.
Purchased the bike about a month ago, bike had been sitting in barn for a couple of years. And it seemed like a good project.(my 1st one). on test bike would not tick over and was quite slow to pick up when riding.
when kicking bike over bike had very good compresion and started 2nd time. Also back brake not working.

Got bike home in van, drained out old fuel looked very suspect. cleaned out carbs. Also drained out 2 stoke mix and engine oil, Also noticed when fuel tap was in pri postion right carb leaking fuel from breather hose from bottom. Moved tang in carb about 2mm problem solved.
Replaced all fluids with Fully synfettic. And stripped rear caliper and freed pistons and new pads relpaced and bled brake.

Re tuned carbs bike ticking over at 1500rpm and sounding lush.went out on bike friday run really well and pulling well. needless to say i had a massive grin and felt proud. well worth all the moans and groans from the wife, saying i give the bike more attension then her. oh yeah wife turned up 1 lunch time to find i had 2 bikes in garage and drooling over my kr1s. Did not metion i was getting another bike my explanation was this bike has a pillion seat so we can go out on rides togeter. Other bike a srad 750 with hump.

yesterday praying rain would stop as i was itching to get out. Bike run like it did on test ride but not as bad. but very slow to pick up at low revs.
What should i look for or do next.

Thanks for looking

Hi,

do the KIPS valves open and close as they should?

Perhaps they're stuck in the 'open'-position?

could be fuel starvation. Check that the fuel runs out the tap Ok and also the float valves again.
Also check that the air filter hasn't fallen over the intakes.

Could be more crud come through the fuel lines blocking up the carbs.
Does the bike have in-line fuel filters, and if so did you replace them?

Thanks for the replys,

When i was tuning in the carbs the kips operation was opening and closing very fast is that normal.

Just been reading the manual on here and did not realise kips has a start up procedure when ignition is switched on. What i can remember when i did have the tank off kips did not go through this procedure.

I wondered if it was fuel starvation but fuel comes out the taps ok.
when you say in line fuel filters where do you mean.

I shall check all this first and shall let you know how i get on

I mean a filter between the fuel tap and the carb.

theres a KIPS/servo reset/test procedure in the manual, make sure you disconnect the cables first though.

Hi, the problem was air filter had folded over blocking the carbs, im so glad i posted this problem on here. i would probabaly never of thought that and thinking it was a more serious issue.

The bike never came with a air filter, so i purchased one you have to cut to shape, i think there should be some sought of plastic mesh under the filter.

The bike i brought was advertised on here 15 june by penf.i shall try and put some pics on.

Thanks again for the replys

Glad yo got it sorted.
And yes there is meant to be a mesh frame to support the air filter element. You may just have to see if someone local to you has a spare.

Glad to hear you got it sorted, but did you check the KIPS too? As they should open and close upon switching the ignition on and yours doesn't as you wrote.

Is it the drive part that you require, which fits to the wheel?

its the cable which leaves the speedo and goes into the lhs fork
