Just to let you see that assembly has been started
After the usual mounting crack repair, I decided to go for a satin black frame and swinger. Bodywork will be pretty much as original, except the white triangles on the fairing and tank will be changed to black, and I've got a red 'S' on my decals rather than yellow.
I'll update as it progresses.

Hi Tommy,
The boxes of bits look very familiar - just like my garage!
I just hope I can:
a) Remember where all the bits are
b) Remember where they go
c) Find all the photos I took during the dismantling stage
I am interested to see what a Red & Grey looks like with a black frame
Keep the photos coming =D>

Some progress, but slow due to problems with swing arm bearings, and hesitation regarding original bolt refurb

Just wire brushed, and painted the heads, but still tempted to strip back out and go down the diy zinc coating route.
Hopefully get it on its feet before christmas
Tommy
ps - also have an engine shot, but for some reason it keeps getting flipped upside down...........

I'll try later.

Love the black yokes Tommy
Was going to do the same on my Kr1s project but now it'll just look like i'm copying you
Go for the zinc plating kit fella, its great fun. Just make sure you practise on a few bits first, you soon be looking round the garage for things to plate wether they need it or not

Not at all mate - go for it

That's the beauty of here is you can see other people 'try' things, and pick out the combinations that work for you

The only reason i painted them was i couldn't be bothered polishing
Chemistry isn't my strong point - do you know if you can anodise with a similar setup as the plating - obviously with different chemicals ??

Funny you should ask that Tommy because my next purchase from either Gateros plating or Caswell europe is going to be a plating kit
Yes I know in the past I have questioned the sexual orientation of anodising but I repent & realise that actually anodising is an important part of motorcycle restoration
So the answer to your question is yes but apparently not all aluminium parts can be anodised, don't ask me why, I just assumed its down to the content of the parts to be anodised? If that makes sense?

I like standard trim but have to admit that the black frame looks good.
I'm not getting involved in the anodising thing

Not a huge amount of progress, but some little improvements that'll help it along. After much debate, I invested in an electrolytic cleaning kit, and a zinc plating kit to deal with all the bolts etc that can't be replaced with stainless, and painting is not really a satisfactory soluting.
Very pleased with the results so far. Thanks for the advice guys
Footpeg bolts before and after cleaning
Various alfer cleaning, and before coating
Shiney
Nearly on its feet
Cheers,
Tommy
