Hi Chaps
looking at purchasing a kr1s on a j plate however the engine number is kr1250c000029 with a frame number of kr250be002499. im a little suspicious that this may not be an kr1s but just a kr1 as the numbers are low. how can i be certain it is a kr1s

Hi Ricky, and welcome to the forum.
You seem to have gotten your frame and engine number swapped around, and that 1 in the frame number dosn't belong. Aside from that though, the c in the frame number after 250 means that it's a KR1S. Dont wory about the engine number having a b in it after the 250, as kawasaki numbered all KR1 and KR1S engines this way (although the engine number does seem a little low to my mind).
By far the easiest way to tell a KR1 and a KR1S apart is by looking at the frame. The KR1S main frame spar has smooth sides, while the earlier KR1 has ribs running down it's length.

The gearbox oil filler cap is the easiest way. The KR1 had an alloy cap with a slot in the top that requires a large screwdriver (or even a coin) to open it. The KR1S oil filler cap didn't require a screwdriver or such, and could be opened by hand.

I have an engine NR 000023 and its a kr1s so the engine nr isn't a problem.
if you screw the combustion chambers open there at the side of each cilinder you can check the nr that is there if it says 1543 or 1544 you have kr1 cilinders if its says 1596 or 1597 you have kr1s cilinders

Thanks jarno for your input, i got the engine nr and frame nr the wrong way round in my original post, however what do you mean when you say screw the combustion chambers open. where are these numbers and if i go to look at a bike to purchase i dont think i could start taking it apart javascript:emoticon(':D').

in the upper cowling you have inspection panels,if you screw them of (will take you 1 minut) you will look direckty at the cilinders you also can see the combustionchamber on the cilinder screw them of (2 bolts ) behind them you will see the numbers.
check the numbers and you will know if the are kr1 or kr1s cilinders.

well chaps went to see the bike yesterday. its on ebay for £2995. what a waste of time. oil spewing every where, make shift cans and filthy is this what im going to expect to find out there..............hope not. never mind i`ll keep on looking for that gem.

Jarno is referring to the resonator chambers on the side of the barrels, but I'm not sure people will be wanting you taking them off, as it can disturb the gaskets.

One will come up, when i dont know. Not seen a silver number board before, they are MIG end cans i have them on my 1s and are made in france i think.

im pretty sure the cans were labeled NIC something and the bolt holes attaching them had been redrilled to line up

i take it that was the one you were looking at what was the body work like, that alone is worth its weight in turnips, but don't look like a 3 grander then cheers
