Engine is apart, now what... seals, gaskets, etc.

So my engine is apart. It's surprisingly clean and tight inside. One of the crank bearings has spun in the casing which isn't so great, I guess I'll have to 'glue' it in place during the rebuild.

I pulled it down because it was billowing smoke during my test runs but now that I'm in there nothing is screaming "I'm all worn out" at me. The crank seals are obvious "must replace" parts and I'd expected the bearings to be the same but they're tight, like, near new tight. The slop that I thought was dud bearings was, like I mentioned, the slop in the case =(

I've never pulled down a rotary valve engine before and I'm a bit unsure what needs replacing. The huge o-rings around the rotary valve housings for instance? They look ok but I dunno!

Also, where the heck do I get gaskets? Are they still available anywhere or is it a case of gasket goo?

So, if anyone has any rebuild tips I'd love to read em'.

Cheers

Templates for the gaskets available HERE, cut your own from gasket paper. Head gasket more tricky, someone on here was proposing to get a batch made but I'm not sure if it ever came to anything.

As for everything else, good luck ! Get the Kawasaki part-numbers HERE and then try as many dealers, suppliers and web-searches as you can. If you can find a good engineering shop that does bearings/seals/etc, take yours in for matching.

How vital is the main crank case gasket thickness? If it's super important, what thickness paper should I use?

hi check out my post finally started, dont make the same mistakes i did by trying to cut corners and save money it will come back and bite you, renew ALL the bearings making sure the main bearings are the correct grade not just standard roller bearings, also do ALL the seals, if the o rings look good used a smear of 3 bond. also thats what i used on the crank case halfs without any probs, good luck with the build.

jhjjh
