You will need to change the yokes as the fork legs are wider in diameter. I believe that the ZXR250 yokes will go straight in with no hassle, however, the 400 yokes have a slightly longer stem. you can either press out the stem and press the KR1 stem in its place or you can machine up a spacer to take up the extra length. I did the latter as it was easy to do, quick, and hardly notices. In both cases, the bearings do not need changing.
The 400 forks will need to be re-valved and re springed, otherwise they are rock hard.

do these changes alter the geometry/handling?

ie. are they shorter or longer than the standard forks?

Garry, these are only rough measurements, but the ZXR400 forks are 745mm from spindle centre to top of fork (excluding preload adjusters) wheras KR forks are about 725mm so yeah a bit longer, when I eventually get round to it I'll measure it up properly from top of top yoke to spindle centre and set the ZXR400 forks the same. I'll also measure the ZXR250 forks and see what they are for future reference.
