Unfortunately the zxr swinger wont go in. All the linkages are the same and fit ok, the problem is that it looks like on the KR the shock mount on the frame is further forward than on the zxr. This leads to the shock being at more of an angle, which means that the spring clouts the braced area on the front of the zxr swinger. I cant be bothered altering either frame or swinger to fit as the main idea was to get a hugger that looked like it was meant to be there.

So, a few brackets later and the hugger fits quite nicely on the KR1 swing arm, it looks even better on a 1S arm due the extra bracing. So will get this one done black and repaint the hugger.

Sussed the brackets for an rgv tank just need to play about with them a bit now, might have the 21 tank or might go with a 22, not sure yet

Anyway looks fractionally better than it did but still a long way to go.

i would choose the 22 tank as it has a really nice sculptured shape, the 21 looks a bit ''rg250 gamma''.

I quite like the 21 tank, though I do know what you mean about the shape and a 22 one is a possibility, I'm thinking of using a 21 race seat or one from an rg125fun. Need to have a play about with it all yet. If I do that it may well end up either all black (yeah dead boring but easy) or a very dark gunmetal colour.

The other option is that it ends up withe the all green bodywork of my other one, whilst that gets treated to a new set, which would definately be in the blue/black colour scheme. Could end up being all of the above-cos I've still got another frame stashed in the cellar and I might have to build another one.

Not really had much time to do anything with this recently, other than stick the zxr400 front end in for the time being and sort the swingarm out.

I know one or two people have asked about a hugger in the past and the consensus was that the early zx6r was the best bet. I tried one (aftermarket brand new) but never liked how it quite fitted, it always seemed a fraction too wide and when fitted it seemed to bow, that might just be because of what it was made from. Or I'm crap at fitting

Anyway I've now sorted out the zxr250 one, I've plastic welded a big chunk that was missing and resprayed it to match the KR1 swing arm now that's been powdercoated. The extra brackets look ok and I removed any unwanted ones.

Here's what it looks like and quickly positioned in the frame.

So currently, wheels away at powdercoaters, zxr400h front and Kr1 rear.
Shock off to be sorted asap. Waiting on bearings for swing arm linkages etc but all coated and ready to go in. Same with rear caliper, torque arm etc.

Going to tidy up inner and rear mudguard, airbox and any other plastic bits. Mount for rgv vj21 or 22 tank made, coated and fitted.

Anyone got a left hand pillion footpeg mount going spare? Need one to hack down as it will only be for the can hanger.

it looks very nice, the hugger looks x10 better now its had a coat of paint and the swing arm has been done. what forks do you use ie which model?

Forks in both this and the other one are zxr400h1. In this one the h yokes are used with a stem swap. In the other zxr250a yoke.

Now for another option, I'm led to believe that zxr400l forks are a straight fit into a zxr250c bottom yoke whichcan be persuaded into a kr. The l series 400s used a 17mm spindle which makes fitting of a 5 spoke kr1s wheel easier than using h series forks which need a 20mm spindle.

It all depends on what you want really, if I was doing it again I'd get some asprin first

which forks are adjustable, is it just the sp? i may aswell get the adjustable ones if im gonna bother as its for a race bike. elf's forks are practically ohlins now, aiming for something similar EVENTUALLY! went to get the 35mm carbs from colin sleigh(kr cup championship winner/icgp racer) and his kr has some nice bit's with modded crossbrace to allow a straighter run for duct, pvm wheel with prolite discs(rvf400) and a 64hp motor! this got my motivation going again and as the motor in mine is pretty quick the chassis leaves a lot to be desired. kr1 caliper/forks and rear shock are useless on a race track, especially with 18yr old oil! a rear shock is on its way, just trying to decide on a front end. do the 1s calipers fir on the h1 zxr forks? im after using the fireblade calipers if possible. is the zxr front end much heavier than std kr? i also considered using the front end from the highly adjustable fzr rrsp... decisions, decisions.

Think the SP forks are the bells and whistle jobs, the ones on my KR1S have the usual preload and damping adjusters on the top. To me, it seems much more planted with the zxr front end, doesn't want to shake it's head quite as much. Weight wise I think that the zxr forks are somewhat heavier, by how much I'm not certain, everything else on mine is kr or similar in weight so that's the only difference really. These may well be off to maxton over the winter, I'm sure that will make the biggest difference. On tthe back it's got an EMC shock which is almost new.

The finished one is runing fireblade calipers and I'm impressed with them, 99% that I'll use them again, piece of piss to fit to either kr or zxr legs. In answer to your question the zxr400h1 and 2 calipers discs etc are the same as KR1S.

This is the other one with zxr front end and 'blade nissin calipers

Yep the SP model forks (H or L) are fully adjustable. Even the standard one's offer a hell of an improvement over standard and seem to suit the KR really well. Mine were standard one's which then had a one off fully adjustable Ohlins internals and cartridges fitted.

Not really done much, with this one recently, usual excuses time, family, money, blah blah blah.

Howeverhad a recent surge in enthusiasm and hope to make a bit of progress soon. Back end is nearly in and done, shock rebuilt and spring re coated, all new bearings in wheel and swingarm. Waiting on rear caliper that's been done black just need to rebuild. Going to have to get a different rear disc the one I've got is a PFM cast one and it rusts in about 10 secs

Current state of play is

Have just bought a good engine and pipes, so they'll be going in/on soon enough, front wheel is sorted, hopefully, also just got a pair of 929 calipers.

Still undecided on tank, might be vj22, if anyones got one going spare let me know
