carbs HELP!!!!!

Post by sipaldi »

HELP!!!!
After building a kr1s from spares, i am struggling to get the right hand carb working. Luckily we have x2 running kr1s and swopped a carb over. This runs superb with the other carb on.
Question is, I cannot get any of the spare right hand carbs which i have to run the bike. I am running premix and have changed the jets. The exhaust just oils up. I believe there is a special way to set them up, can anyone explain how please in simple terms? The floats are set at 19mm.
Thanks
Phil

I havent heard of a "special" way to set up the carbs.

I have had bent needles on other carbs (4cyl/4T) before and that was a bit of bother till I noticed.

Could be blockage somewhere?

Is the float sticking open or the neddle valve worn?

The way to set them up is to balance the cables so they both start opening at the same time and are both open the same amount. You can do this by feeling the slide with your fingers. their is a post on this by RC46 somewhere IIRC.

Yeah thanks for that guys. Both carbs are opening ok. I have been reading the other posts over the last few weeks. They are complicated. Initially the problem carb pissed fuel out of the overflow. This was then stripped, washed in a degreasing bath and rinsed with water then blown through. The floats were then set at 18 - 20mm. All i did was put it back together and try again. Fuel overflow solved but she still wont run properly on that side. I swopped carbs left to right and the problem followed the problematic carb. I have not messed with the tickover screw or the brass screw in the side of the carb. Could this be the problem?

well, we have both cylinders running now.
After warming up and revving it seems to hover around 3k revs for a while before dropping to 1200 ish. Its not the choke. Could it be a weak fuel/air mix, ie too much air?

should be two knobs on a black cables that allow you to set the idle.
sounds like its a bit out to me if its racing like its got the choke on.
