The R1 is quite nice but it is still only an R1 with a R7 fairing. It doesnt have an R7 chassis!

A real R71 is a R7 rolling Chassis and R1 motor, but these were all made in workshops or garages and Yamaha never built one officially even though I know they did build a few for testing and developement for the next generation R1. If Daniel worked for a Yamaha dealer he would know all of the above and that the rolling chassis of his bike is pure R1 as the R7 has an adjustable swingarm pivot as well as a swingarm fabricated from sheet and not extruded alloy for the arms. It doesn't have a removable subframe or adjustable headstock and YES all R7's DID come with full Ohlins front and rear! Also all the R7's came with 320mm discs not the 298mm ones fitted on the one Daniel has. I am sorry to just post at random but this thread has been linked to another forum and I just had to step in and say what I know. I worked on loads of R7's and even redesigned some parts for the Factory race bikes. The riders who used my parts were. Ray Stringer, James Haydon, Nori Haga, Vito Guareschi, Steve Hislop, Christer Lindholm, Paul Brown and Dan Harris. If Daniel want so show how much he knows about the R7 fine but Daniel please get it right! There are sad bastards like me who will stick their nose in and either correct you and make you look daft or just rip the piss out of you......

Sorry to interupt you guys..... I am new here and do not want to piss off too many people but the R7/R1 thing is just annoying. An R1 with different fiberglass is still an R1. Sorry!

This is a 2003 R7, bolt on rear subframe rather than welded, solo race seat, no pillion pegs, different swinging arm. In fact different frame all together as far as I can see, did the R7 change as I cannot see many similarities between your bike and this picture Daniel, I am probably missing somthing.

The R7 did not change at all. Yamaha only built one batch of them and they did not sell that quickly due to poor results early on and poor engine reliability when the £4000.00 race kit was fitted to get the bike over the 100BHP restriction and up to about 135BHP which was the same as the R1 and about £17000 different in price! So the 2003 bike is just an original one which did not get register until 2003!
Oh....As for the logbook calling it an R71. I can change my log book to call mine anything it proves nothing. The frame number if it is on an age related plate and not a Q plate will prove more though as there is a portion of the number which gives the model of the bike and this cannot be faked.

Delicate is right, i was inspired when i saw one in a magazine recently and came up with this:



Unfinished as i realised the support arms i added from the frame mount to the lower mount would foul the bogbones, but it would look pretty good on the KR none the less
