just put reddevil's top end together and the head that was on his bike was modded???
anybody know why..or has it just been welded up cos of a blow up and not machined back properly???
marks head...with no lip to the squish band....
the head i put on for him...standard has a lip onto the squish band????
anybody???
hight from gasket face to plug hole seems the same...???

yup straight from the gasket face in.
you can see it at the top as i tried to lap the head...it hit the squish band with a tru-flat block....
squish on a kr1 is so bad you could run without a head gasket...

std squish is quite big, way too big to get real benefit from serious tuning without further work imo. i think flowing, transfers entrys, cases,ex port and having the head worked is a good way of gaining something for quite a little if your handy with an engine and know a machinist. my squish is about 0.7-0.8 and can still be lower if the right fuel is used and service intervals are brought down. i dont know what to make of that head bung? cant see a great deal but it definitly has been altered for some reason? mj may know something? he's the head design expert!!
It looks like it has been machined down to increase compression but they forgot to machine the squish band back on.
As standard the squish band is so wide you can get a bus though there. Engine will benifit a lot by machining down the head gasket face and remachining the squish to get the correct valve and compression.
Sean just sent me a link on your subject; you can see below a simplified drawing of my blank inserts; check the main dimensions on your KR1 head to verify if it's possible to machine inserts recess:
