One of my RD's

Post by zigcoors »

Here's my '78 Yam 250D - When I first bought it - Everything worn out / knackered.

Image

After some fettling - and alot of replacement bits and peices. No showstopper but it does me.

That was taken about 18months ago - it's now white \ red.

Found this - as it is now - Thanks Fred :)

Lots of Yamaha two strokes - probably not the thing to own on a Kawasaki Forum

Me too, seriously thinking about one, my brother had a 200 always liked them the 250s and the 400s.

Anyone seen that reverse cylinder 400 on ebay? Looks a bit wierd at the back but fantastic piece of engineering.
The last time Liverpool Fc won the league, George Michael was black and Michael Jackson was straight or visa versa, it's that long ago I get confused.

My thoughts on that 400 too - This is a personal thing - but with the full fairing makes it hard(er) to tell it apart from a modern bike.

Aircooled Yams like everything else labled as collectable, - prices go up to way beyond what the're worth. Piles of crap seem to fetch stupid money especially when you are looking at a late model 400.

The 250 in picture cost me £155 - be lucky to get a pile of rust for that at the moment :)

If you get serious about having an Airccoled Yam drop me a PM - I've got a late 250F project that I'm not sure what I'm doing with yet.

I tink the air cooled RD's are so much cooler now then the LC's.
much rarer and much much cheeper.

Dunno about the cheaper bit, Col, have you seen what a good 400 makes?

I'll have a go at one when I've got this second kr done or perhaps it'll be the rgv 'spit' after that

I agree those old air cooled yams rock.

I did have a late RD 125 twin with the cast wheels a few years ago but sold it for £50 when i snapped a stud in the casing #-o i've not seen one as nice since, drats!

I have to admit though i do like the look and sound of the old KH triples a little more..... =P~

wow, two lovely tz/td replicas!. love rd's,lc's and valves built into period race reps. 10x more intresting than the ''usual'' rgv front and rear end. nothing wrong with the rgv/lc hybrids but theres not that many tz replicas in comparison. my yamagamma will be a rep of the f2 spondon lc's that were in fact as quick as a tz with more lower down pown thanks to reed valves. they basically had tz everything less cases and barrels. in fact i think they may of been a touch quicker than the tz at the time? mine will be painted in the gash len manchester colours. prices of rd's are catching up quickly to those of the lc though. i have seen concours bikes fetching 4k!! they are very nice but i dont see the point in spending that on a bike that would be arse kicked by a std 2ma tzr!!! i guess its the rose tinted thing. the reason i dont have std bikes is because i cant afford them!! sounds daft but for same money you can either buy as mint std one or build a special. if you drop the special its easy/quite cheap to repair. id be frightened to ride a mint std bike for fear of scratching it!!
