The water pipe under the engine

Post by TC »

Just finished a protracted rebuild and running the bike up and down the road (as you do) I noticed there is a water leak. This is coming from the LH end of the water pipe that feeds into the base of the crankcases, where the o-ring joint is. I guess I must have chipped the o-ring when I assembled it. Poop.

Now here's the problem. I recall when I stripped the engine the pipe didn't want to come out until I removed the clutch outer and inner cases, which is a bit of a faff. Is it possible (in people's experience) to get the pipe off without removing the 2 clutch cases?

Thanks all :)

in short...nope... :(

you'll have to take the right cover off.... :( :(

you dont have to nip the seal for them to leak, kawasaki have always been a pain to seal on the water pipes(anybody tried it on a gpz...  )..put a good dollop of silicone on each end and it should be fine....best of luck.... :D

Ah well :( Thanks for the info anyhoo.

Righto, drained the oil and water, undid the cover screws and both come off together - happily not too difficult - and we have the offending article off now, sure enough there is a little cut on one side where it was leaking.

Next question, the online parts list gives these o rings (replace the set) as 670B2014 and 670B2016.

Does Kawasaki still do these or are there standard viton seals that somebody can recommend?

they don't have to be viton in my opinion, ordinary O-rings will do. at least : I've fitted normal rings and never had problems with them

OK. I normally refer to the black types as viton but as you say there are different types of rubber. However the question stands, can somebody recommend an alternate P/N or are they still available from Kawasaki?
