sounds like i have foooked this engine!

that doesnt sound good....

hope its is just the bearing and you've got to it in time before it starts breaking up....

got half a dozen bottom ends in bits,let me know whats gone....ill have a rummage....

just been out and tried starting it again and no joy not even trying,tried bumping it down the street and that dont work,the only thing that i can say was a bit dodgy when i put the engine back in was when i was reconnecting the kips cables the power went,(turning ignition on and then off half way through the cycle to connect cables)off,i thought i had blown the fuse but it came back on by itself,but i have a good spark so it cannot be electrical me thinks,it keeps poping when being kicked over and bumped so that shows petrol is getting there i think,so any ideas on simple things to try before i take it to the garage would be welcome and has you have seen it was running this morning,only other thing i have changed is the flywheel and woodruff key cause they were foooked,but surely the magnets are all the same

Ahh if the flywheel has knocked the pick up coil that could be the problem. I've had that happen before and it flip up the pickup. if its poping it sounds like the timing and thats what happened to mine the pickup coil was firing intermittenly and caused simular problems. if not then look for a bad or incorrect electrical connection. The other thing is you haven't got the flywheel on correctly so the timing is out.

are flywheels all the same cause that seems to me the most obvious with it backfiring when kicked and bumped,there is only one way to fit the flywheel cause theres only one groove for the woodruff key,will change the pickup in the morning and i think i may put the original fly wheel back on just to test,cheers elf

There are two different flywheels but they are the same, timing wise, except for cosmetric differences in how the magnets are fitted on the inside. If its fitted onto the crank correctly, ie on the key, then I would go for the pick up coil. if not then a bad connection somewhere.

The fact thats its backfiring shows that you are getting a spark and fuel but not both at the right time or possiably a weak spark, due to a damaged stator coil. I know it always takes me ages to get a new engine running as I soak the crank bearings in two stroke oil during the engine build which then drip into the cases and then causes a oil rich mixture for a bit until the surplus oil has left the engine, but I would rather do that than leave a dry bearing in the crank.

When mine went south I had both coils go on me, the stator failed slowly over a month or so but once it went it was easy to find with a multimeter, but at first it only started to fail under load so appeared to be fine when tested normally. The pick up coil got screwed at the same time due to the flywheel breaking free, which was probably caused by me messing around trying to solve the original problem

yer joking rad mate......carnt even find any work

anyhow to get back to the engine bit,bought a race bike a bit back as a non runner doing same as mine coughin and farting when kicking it over,can yer guess what it was yet?funking result $\:D/$ snapped woodruft key $\:D/$ so got a tuned engine that sounds a ok

but that leads me on to another question does any one have just a daylight mot kinda bike,cause i am thinking of selling mine

and just doing a track hack with a day light mot to keep the smile on me face

do they just need a number plate and rear light?

Daylight MOT just needs a working horn, number plate and the usual working brakes, legal tyres etc.
