OK. Neutral fairly hard to select with engine running. You tend to go 1st, 2nd, back to 1st, 2nd again etc.
With engine turned off it goes into neutral OK ish.
Had something similar to this with another KR1 set-up and that would go no further than first and second gear. Changed the selector drum (as KR1 and KR1S are very damn similar) and problem eliminated.
Suspect this bike has a selector drum issue or are they "All just like that Sir" ?

I had exactly the same problem. Turns out it was the thrust washer in the clutch fitted the wrong way round.

Can't remember which way it's meant to be, but if memory serves correctly it works properly fitted 'the wrong' way round. I.e. it didn't look that it should have been that way round and seemed that it should have been the way it was , if you follow me.

first thing to change is the washer between the inner and outer basket..still available..around a tener...

the actuating arm can wear too but the washer is the usual suspect... :D
bring a ding ding i'm a throttle happy chappy...:)

you cant beat a bit of blue haze...

I had a simular problem and it turned out I had a KR1 gear seloctor spring fork, instead of a KR1S one. Its the fork leg which is spring loaded and stops the drum rotating past the next gear. As the gearboxes are the same (almost) the selector mechcanisms are very different (but these differences are not easy to spot at first site) ans the end of these forks are a different diamater.

The gearboxes are interchagable between the KR1 and the s but alot of the individual components are not.

IIRC there isn't a wrong way round , but when it wears a step apears at the bottom around the teeth. which can be fixed by turning it round or by fitting a new one. perhaps this was the case with yours?

if it helps i can send yopu a selecter fork to try if you havent a spare? im unsure if its kr1 or 1s though. i had a serious issue a few yrs ago going from 1st to 2nd so bad that it wouldnt have it under moderate load. as the bike was seriously lacking in all areas i stripped it completly and gave her a rebuild. when i got to the gearbox shaft (input shaft i think??) the bearing was tight. i replaced it and the gearbox was as slick as any. the actuating arm for the clutch can cause clutch drag. always worth a look as its easy to do.
