Bandit 400 rear wheel

Post by DAMO666 »

Anyone know if the Suzuki 400 bandit rear wheel is the same as the rgv vj22? ie compatable with KR1S with spacers etc.

It's different, viewtopic.php?t=3965&highlight=bandit
Not saying it can't be done but it looks like more work.

I've got one in my KR1-SV project

it's totally different compared to an RGV, except for the 3-spoke design, but it's easy to fit.

What about Aprilia rs250 rear wheel? Seem to remember it being mentioned but can't find anything on here. Just want to cover all other options as well as rgv.

I have one unfitted, but a test fit the other day showed me that you will need the rear caliper & hanger off the rs250 plus you will need to do away with the torque arm and find a way of stopping the RS caliper from spining, you will also need to either change the bearings (RS250 has 20mm spindle KR has 17) or sleeve up the spindle. On the plus side the standard RS250 sprocket side spacer appears to give a perfect chain run so it should be fairly easy to get some spacers made up for the other side. All this information is not gospel its just from a test fit using the KR spindle. Scooble has an RS wheel fitted to her race bike but she has an RGV swingarm also Yatsushiro has one on his YPVS hybrid but that is running a YPVS motor so sprocket alignment will probably be different. When I get a chance to finish the conversion I will post spacer dimensions etc up here. Another plus point of this conversion is that the spoke pattern is almost an exact match for the KR front!
Cheers

The other rear wheel I've noticed recently that is very close to the KR1S is the h***a VTR250. It's 17 X 4 and is a swept 5 spoke design. I havnt had the opportunity to measure one of these up at all, but thought I'd mention it anyway, even though it's no wider than the 1S wheel. It is at least a 17" (so better choice of rubber) and rear brake discs would be more readily available.
Just a thought.... :-k
