What sprocket sizes can anyone suggest with a 17" rear wheel for a short track, Mallory for example.

I've got these ratios listed in my book for the standard gearbox with a 17" rear.
Brands Indy 14-45
Brands GP 14-42
Cadwell 15-45
Darley Moor 15-44
Mallory Park 15-46
Snetterton 15-42
I also have the following for the KR1R close ratio box in the same bike
Brands Indy 15-41
Cadwell 15-39
Croft 15-40
Donnington 15-39
Mallory Park 15-41
Oulton Park 15-40
Snetterton 16-38
Hope these give you a good starting point but the actual ratio that you'll need will depend on your engine tune and personnal preferences.
On some circuits its more important to gear for a perticual corner rather than top speed, at snetterton for example, gear for drive out of the chic-caine before the start finish straight rather than for top speed along the back straight. On most tracks though you gear for the end of the longest straight so that you hit the top of 6th gear (rev wise) as you get to your braking marker
