HI GUYS--BEEN REBUILDING A (CRASHED) KR1 ON AND OFF FOR A FEW YEARS NOW AND THIS IS MY QUESTION:-WHEN I START THE BIKE IT IS VERY SMOKEY EVEN THOUGH I HAVE DRAINED THE OIL TANK AND FILLED WITH SILKOLENE LOW SMOKE!! I LEAVE IT FOR AROUND 5 MINUTES TO WARM UP BUT WHEN I REV THE BIKE IT THEN SPRAYS NEAT DIRTY OIL OUT OF THE PIPES ALL OVER THE GARAGE WALL(AND ANYTHING ELSE BEHIND IT) ALONG WITH CLOUDS OF OIL SMOKE.I`VE CHECKED THE ALIGNMENT OF THE OIL PUMP PULLEY AS PER THE MANUAL IS THERE ANOTHER WAY OF REDUCING THE OIL DELIVERY OR AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE---HEEEEEEEEEEELP PLEASE.

First of all, welcome to the forum Nosher.
Is it both pipes, or just one?
If both, it may just be the pipes have a heap of old dirty oil in them and need a good clean out.
Other possibility is that the crank seals may be gone and leaking gearbox oil into the crankcase.
Hope this helps.
Cheers, Scott.

HI SCOTT-THANKS FOR THE REPLY---YES BOTH THE PIPES ARE SPEWING OIL -I WAS HOPING I WOULD NOT HAVE TO TEAR DOWN THE MOTOR TO CHANGE THE SEALS AS YOU SUGGESTED MAY BE THE FAULT SO I`M TAKING IT OUT FOR A GOOD LONG THRASH TOMORROW TO SEE IF IT CLEARS THE FAULT--IF NOT--ITS OUT WITH THE SPANNERS---AGAIN!!

KR1 Man calling. Something else worth checking out: Is there (even slightly) a smell of petrol coming from inside the clutch casing when you remove the filler plug? This would substantiate the advice already posted by Alimorg. Also may be worth a carb strip (When were they last done?) and air filter clean. Something else which would improve the clean running is to eliminate any sloppiness in the kips linkages. Firstly remove linkage complete and dismantle it. Degrease everything. Replace the tips onto the valves having carefully placed a drop of non permenant locking fluid inside each.Replace the valve screws having used a drop of the same stuff. Give the swivel joints a sparing drop of coppergrease and insert the screws into the rods. Now CAREFULLY apply a drop of locking fluid to the threads before tightening them up. Now you have a kips linkage with no sloppiness
just as Mr Kawasaki intended. Finally replace cables and adjust according to the manual. Good luck, KR1 Man.

HI KRI
TOOK IT OUT FOR A GOOD THRASH TODAY TO SEE IF THE SMOKE CLOUD COULD HIDE NORTH LONDON-- IT DIDN`T AND THE BIKE SCARED THE S---T OUT OF ME WHEN THE KIPS OPENED UP!!!.FIRST TIME I`VE RIDDEN IT SINCE I BOUGHT IT AND IT SEEMS TO HAVE STOPPED SPRAYING OIL AFTER LEAVING IT RUNNING FOR A FEW MINUTES.I SHOULD HAVE STATED THAT ITS BEEN IN MY GARAGE WITHOUT RUNNING FOR OVER 12 YEARS!! AND MAYBE THE CRANK SEALS HAVE SHRUNK A LITTLE DUE TO NO HEAT OR LUBE BEING ON THEM FOR SO LONG AND THAT RUN OUT HAS GOT THEM SEALING AGAIN??ANYWAY I`VE TAKEN YOUR ADVICE AND DRAINED THE GEARBOX OIL(IT ONLY HAD 750 ML IN IT INSTEAD OF 860)AND REFILLED WITH THE PRECISE AMOUNT,WHEN IT STOPS WITH THE LIQUID SUNSHINE
HERE I`LL TAKE IT OUT AGAIN THEN DRAIN AND MEASURE TO SEE IF ITS STILL SLURPING THE OIL INTO THE CRANKCASE-CHEERS C.K

KR1 Man calling, good luck with it m8, have you had a sniff of the old oil for petrol fumes yet? Something else worth a look for, are the needle settings correct? I run 2nd notch from top, ie: circlip in notch 2. The manual states notch 4 but that will make things run horribly rich. Good luck & best regards, KR1 Man.
