I was going to go for a ride today after finally managing to get the oil filler opening plug off and some oil in, thanks for the advice by the way.

I started her up fine and was all ready to go, but then the engine suddenly started cutting out, and kept doing it. Restarted it a couple of times, then finally, I had just put her into second gear, engine died again and wouldn't start back up. Couldn't shift the bike back into neutral either, so it is stuck in 2nd gear at the moment and won't do anything, literally.

Anyone got any ideas?

try rocking the bike back and forward in gear while trying to shift down. The gears need to allign so you can change gears.

As for it cutting out it could be a bad connection to one of the engine cut out switches (side stand, Clutch leaver, and neutral light connection(under engine)).

cheers elf.

got it all sorted and took her out for a spin today, lovely bike, a little flier!

only thing now is the clutch is still slipping. This is my first stroker and I've been told that this is quite a common problem with the kr-1, but still a tad annoying.

It's fine once it warms up a bit. If anyone got any good ideas on how to fix this, advice is more than appreciated. At the moment I'm just trying to warm her up a bit before going out on the road, as people don't react well to the bike breaking down in the middle of the road :oops:

What oil did you use?

I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with the oil as I'm using two stroke gear oil for wet clutch. As I said, the problem kind of sorts itself out once it's warmed up, it's just a tad annoying having to warm the bike up for ages before I go anywhere. Since strokers are pretty loud and smokey, the neighbours don't exactly love me for doing it either...

Think Falconman was wondering if you were using mineral or synthetic? mineral works best as a few people (including myself) have had problems with fully synthetic it's caused clutch slip.

My forte is Kaw triples and the number one problem there with clutch slip is the incorrect oil. The manual says to use a 10-40w motor oil because a specific 2 stoke trans oil didn't exist then. When people read that and use motor oil they get clutch slip because oils are very different today. I have had trouble with full synthetics and only run mineral or semi-syn. Since we have eliminated the oil as a possible cause try adjusting the cable and leave some slack in it. If that doesn't solve it you have an internal problem (worn or damaged plates/hubs/springs). I was fighting a clutch slip problem in my H1 race bike and had given up on it and replaced the whole assembly. That fixed the problem. After inspecting the old unit it turns out I had a warped steel plate that was hanging up on the clutch hub.
