c3 pistons

Post by lt_kr1 »

Hi all,

someone recommended that I change the pistons in my KR1 to c3 pistons because that would make the engine a little more reliable. Would it really be worth the time and money? Haven't really had top end related issues. Plus I haven't the foggiest where I'd get c3 pistons from (and probably wouldn't want to know what they charge for them...)

Your engine will probably have been rebuilt in the past, so it will already have these pistons. Only the first KR1s had pistons with the faulty design. All pistons (original and aftermarket like Mitaka) you buy nowadays are of the newer design.

I priced them 13001-1372 (C3), 1 December, still listed as available (at my end of planet)...

for 74GBP (exchange rate) each

I still have a pair of unused (13001-1354) and would have no hesitancy putting them in.

I was really green when the engine on my first bike let go - in my case there was a long period when the power got worse above 7000rpm, sluggish, reluctant - unfortunately I wasnt riding it when it did go.

I was pretty upset - at the time new barrel was the only option at 275GBP (in todays money) - the head had some pitting (but reused).
A new set of pistons and rings, and I put to cost down to learning how to put it together myself.
