Post by edgar90 »

HI THERE,JUST WANT TO POST SOME PICS FROM MY ENGINE THAT DECIDED TO STOP WORKING BY KILLING ITSELF :-k

I WAS DOING ABOUT 80 km/h (50 MPH) AND IT SUDDENLY DIED :?:

I HEARD A NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AND IT JUST STOP RUNNING AND BESIDES THAT THE REAR WHEEL STOP TURNING AND I ALMOST BROKE MY A*S.

THANK GOD THERE WAS NO CARS BEHIND ME,SO I COULD PARK THE BIKE,CALLED MY BROTHER TO PICK US UP AND WENT HOME. ](*,)

SO THE NEXT DAY (SATURDAY 15) I OPENED THE ENGINE AND FOUND THIS...

Ouch. Is that rust I see in the barrel. Do you have steel liners as opposed to to original nikasil plating?

ouch .

but looking at your other piston, I'd say your engine should have had a rebuild some time ago :-k

BROKEN ENGINE

Post by WightWizard »

That looks grim mate.

I'm glad it didn't bite you, 'any landing you walk away from is a good landing'.

I would suggest that the small end bearing was the first point of failure here, I know it's only a moot point though.

The motor looks like a write off to me or at least big rebuild, crankcases are machined as a pair, new crank, piston(s), ooer, etc..........

Good luck with it and I'm glad you escaped with only wallet damage (and a pinch mark in the seat!).

Cheers,

Darren - WightWizard.

That is one serious seizure, I've blown up a few engines before but nothing like that!

I wish you luck with the rebuild Edgar (assuming you are going to rebuild the bike?) I would try to find out what caused it to seize in the first place though.

Best of luck luck mate.
