Post by scooble »

I tried to get a pair of Number 6 slides from Allens, however, they are out of stock, does anyone know of any other keihin distributors? (natiional or international)

I live just a few minutes from Sudco or DG. What carb are you needing the slides for? I can give them a call to see if they have them.

I called all 3 US locations and no one has them in stock. Sorry.

I just looked at the standard jetting list and it shows the 6.0 as stock for the 35. I may have a pair in an old set of 35's (used only once on Sunday at Bonneville '07  ). I can check that this weekend when I get home.

what slide number did your carbs come with?
- the number is either on the top square tab that sticks out or stamped underneath where the needle emerges at the cutaway

standard 35's usually will have #6
Air striker (fins) /quad vents 35's will be #4.5
(if its a 5 or 7 it probably youll need to confirm it is a 35mm body - depends on the donor bike/motor)
BTW - I think a 5mm cutaway will be fine

the different part numbers suggest the airstriker slides wont fit the standard 35s (i will have a measure and photo some 4.5, 5.5, 6.0 and 7.0 slides for you) but I think I have had the AS slides in the std35 no problem

replacing them will be expensive - if you have the smaller number you could machine them 1mm or so to go leaner

that seems like a better price - cheaper than SUDCO list prices
the are some Polaris slides  at even better prices but they are for #5.5 on the much bigger carbs :(

i take it youve checked your kwak dealers price
for part 16025-1164?

recutting slides....

you should be able to butcher some with a drill press - a simple job for someone with a milling machine though

I was going to suggest cutting the slides. I have done it before (that's how I know a mill is the right way to do it #-o ). Also my friend knows the owner at Sudco and gets a decent discount there. I was led to believe the air striker is a different slide than the standard, each place asked which model 35 I had.

by referring to the diagram, is it a simple case of re-cutting the bottom of the slope 1.5mm lower than the K4.5? (assuming that I have a K4.5 - I'll double check that)

throttle valve slides for 35mm

thats good news then

Air Striker slide (4.5) and std 35 slide (6.0) ...
Image

both are identical dimensions, but different at the bottom...
Image

standard 35mm is flat on the bottom...
Image

Air Striker (and later slides) are rounded (presumably for lift and flow reasons)...
Image

older slides (OEM) seem to be marked on the top tab (newer on the bottom, where the needle exits)...
Image

the slides from the large body carbs (36, 38, 39, 41) are much bigger than the 35 (33) so are NOT compatible with the 35 ...
