hi guys
i'm sat bored on my lunchbreak at uni lol
has anyone ever altered the volume of the kips resonator chambers by making a spacer plate to change the mid-range characteristics??
any dyno data on such modifications?
just a thought

Kips resonator chambers question??

seems like a good idea. It probably wouldn't be too difficult to get hold of a long length of recangular section tube and use a corresponding shaped rectangular plunger which you could push in to change the volme characteristics and test on a dyno. If different volumes makes a noticeable difference, it guess it woldn't be too difficult to knock up few alternate chambers to suit different tracks

Have done this on a KDX worked a treat, however the problem with the KR-1 will be to big a volume will see a gap between where the resonator is in phase and the pipe coming into phase. I would say KHI got it about right to begin with.

i was worried that might be the case
so ideally you would want a variable volume that operated prior to the powervalves opening to make the best bottom end possible
i might see what i can make in my spare time just for the hell of it really
i read somewhere about having the powervalves snap open and shut using a solenoid? is this desirable or will it make the bike to peaky?
sorry for all the questions, it just interests me thats all

You'll always get a answer to a smart question and the dumbest question is the question not asked.
Aprilia RS 125's use a soleniod PV actuation works well but no where near as good as a variable height exhaust port.Which leads me to the variable volume resonator, it would work and work very well. However for the complexity and cost a variable height exhaust port works out easier and less costly.

have done this mod on my tuned b2 after having used it on cr 250's,from a riding perspective there is a noticeable gain in drive before 8000rpm.
I used a spare set of covers as the spacers, but i doubt it would be hard to knock some up.
There was a company in the states that used to sell them for mx'ers back in the 90's,which is where i got the idea from, increase the exhaust tract and gain more drive.
