i`ve got S pipes and end cans on my 1 and the end cans feel really heavy and are oily---is the baffle tube made to be removed for degunging?? if not any suggestions non damaging to the alloy casings of ways of removing the buildup of crud and carbon inside the cans?
COME ON YOU GUYS I CAN`T BELIEVE NOBODY HAS EVER DECOKED HIS END CANS AND JUST THROWS THEM AWAY AND BUYS NEW ONES.SOMEONE OUT THERE NOWS THE ANSWER OR IS IT A DEADLY SECRET PUNISHABLE BY EXPULSION FROM THE SITE!!!!
There has been a couple of posts about de-coking the cans and the expansion chambers, try a search to find them.
Basically from what I have read, to clean the chambers use caustic soda, and to clean the cans you can burn the carbon out using a bon fire or similar. Haven't tried the bon fire method though. DO NOT USE CAUSTIC FOR CANS! Aluminium dissovles in caustic soda, as has been said many time on this forum.
After cutting a set open I think the best way to clean them is first use paint stripper (or similar) to remove carbon buildup then flush a few times with lacquer thinner (or similar) to clean out the oil in the fiberglass packing. Basicly plug one end, fill with stripper then plug other end. Leave it in overnite, drain, then flush with thinner.
OK thanks, what sort of sleeve? Should I just block the end up and fill the whole thing with NaOH?

The sleeve is an alloy item and just slips over and uses screws to hold i in place over the silencer. I'd just plug up the end and fill the whole thing with caustic. the only reason people dont do KR1S cans like this is cause it will eat the alloy.
