Bad luck

I never used to even look at the bottom mount TBH but this is now close to the top of my list as I seem to hear it quite regularly

ATB getting it sorted.

I went out today to have another look at the crack in the engine mount,and that's all I did

I was going to set too and get the engine out etc.But I really can't be ar53d with it today.

On Saturday when I found it I was quite philosophical about it,but today I'm p'd reet off.

Anyway it can wait.I need to ring around a few folk I know and see whats the best way to sort it

Hi i had the same on a frame i purchased, (not the one off you bertie), i was cleaning all the grease off b4 i striped the paint off and i noticed that horrible black line, all i did was get the dremel out grind all the weld off took it my local ally welder £5 pound later fixed, but i gave him a tenner, as luck woyuld have it i noticed mine b4 it went to the pc, sorry to hear about yours but you will need to clean off and some pc because you need clean metal to weld or it will make a right mess, i am a welder myself but unfornately i don't weld ally, when i weld anything with paint or traces of paint you do not get a clean weld, will be the same for pc, you might wan't to contact the pc as im sure you can touch it up and as to where it is you'll get away with it hopefully, what i mean its not in full view, BEST OF LUCK GETTING IT SORTED.

It's the wifes bike and I'm not sure she would've found it funny when the motor droped into the belly pan.

She's taking a lot of interest in it all of a sudden

To be honest I hav'nt been near the KR1S for a while now.

I know who I'm going to take it too and I really should get the engine out and run it up there,but the van is poorly again so it's in having the springs and a few other wee jobs done.

Out goings are exceeding income on the vehicle front at the minute

might just sqirt some arraldite in,that'll do

Should have the top end back together soon, contemplating whether I should replace the discs, and chain, and sprockets... the list goes on

How are the dogs doing?

If you need the frame taking for repair, give me a should and I will pick you up in the milk-float. Should get the frame in the back with the seats down.

Its a common fault on the bottom engine mount, due to very large manufacturing tolerances. I measured the gap and the engine mount and spacer and had a washer made up to fill that gap.

Yep, mine was the same, but I wasn't sure about the cause as there was other damage in the vicinity

(high-side impact ?).

Elf,Tambo I've discovered it's a common fault a bit too late

When I refitted the motor it was too tight a fit and I had to remove some of the powder coat from the inside of the mounts with abrasive.The motor eventually slid in nice and snug.

I used a brand new torque wrench to tighted the mount bolts and at the time noticed no crack.It's there now tho

so my best guess is that it was probably there before it went to the powder coaters and I had'nt noticed it, but I'll never know and more to the point it changes nowt. It has to be sorted.

Finally got round to taking out the motor today.The crack in the frame almost disapears once the mounting bolt is undone but as you can see as soon as you apply a wee bit of tension it opens up.

Well worth checking these before commencing any work.

It'll be off to be welded then I'll have to tidy up the area.Should'nt be too bad because of where it is

One other slightly alarming thing that I discovered was that there was a wee drop of coolant clinging to left exhaust port.I can't think of anything other than that this has weeped down from the head gasket.So I will investgate this while the motor is out.
