Alternate PWK35 inlet manifolds

the manifolds I had made for me have degraded unfortunatley (one sheared off completely), therefore, I was on the lookout for alternate inlet manifold rubbers. Does anyone happen to know if alternate manifold plates will fit these carbs?
They're normally a rubber type tube with a flange and two bold holes, which I can probably attach to another plate to fit the KR inlets...I've seen quite a few on ebay, but don't really know what ones will fit these carbs.

That's the fuel which causes that. Where did you get them from?

they were one offs made by KR1R, I've only installed them a few times, the rubber seemed too soft though, even with washers on the mounting holes, it tore into the rubber.

that's a shame. I am looking at 35mm carbs, so will be interested to know how you get around this hurdle.

i would of suggested poss kx 125 rubbers but they are most probably angled!!
it might be wortha search for kawasaki tecate.i was looking for straight inlets for a kx 250 couple years back and they were the nearest i found but i think they could take a 39mm keihin,just an idea?

They're certainly what I'd be looking at if I had 35's.
Then again, my KR aint even running atm, so bigger carbs wouldn't me help much.

Let me get Cadwell out of the way and I will have a go at making some.

When KR-1R put his up I started looking at the rubber to use and have found a suitable source.

Local engineering company can make up some plates and I figured out today how to make the mould.

I hope I can rule out regular fuel being the cause, because I have put samples in a petrol/premix mix for over 6 months with no discernable deteriation
- but I cant be sure of the formulation of individual batches (there are different additives used to achieve chemical resistance and desired hardness)
these are made by a third party, for me, for you
and I havent tested them on ethanol blends (we don't have them at the pump here) or funny fuels

have you hacked off the oil injector bosses out off necessity for fitting your pressurised airbox?
Captain Hindsight might suggest vibration from only supporting the carbs at one end might have stressed it - Normally the material is quite tough and cut/tear resistant.
The texture at the failure and its uniformity - did the whole lot just break off at once like when pulling the carb out the socket?
- some Jubilee clips can be wide and have a sharp edge on the band - this done up tightly under vibration
- struggling to find a suitable explaination to the problem


I am disturbed at this, and feel bad - Have I have wasted a good deal of effort and money to get these made for you guys only for this to happen.
After this souring experience (and the people who let Charles down by putting their eager hands up BUT in the end not coming to the party with funds)... I suggest MJ saves his efforts,
and if people want to get off their arse and do something themselves... to follow Jim's (Falconman) advice and buy some Mikuni bolt ons and get some plates cut for themselves - you wont be saving money though

You won't find a straight KX/KDX inlet - they are angled away from centre for a couple of reasons - but thanks for your input

a comment on OEM parts
Many people go the cheap route and buy cheaper pistons and copy gaskets
- in the end the OEM manufacturers see no demand for their genuine replacement parts so fail to support the longevity of their own products
You can save a dollar on your parts but will put a nail in the coffin for other owners and dealerships
Unfortunately in 1992 the was also another reason at Kawasaki (company was restructured)

What was the material you used? Some react worse in a warm enviroment.
What was the hardness of the material and is it bonded to an ally plate?
With parts nla we are going to have to make our own and there may be a few hiccups on the way

I'm using a set and so far no problems as yet, although the fixing bolts pulled into the rubber but this has not affected their use.

Have used super plus and 50/50 super plus/avgas, always with silkolene pro 2.

Regularly removing carbs for one reason or another and both seem ok still, will have a good look whilst in there over the next few days.
