The KR1S forks are clunking on my Hybrid
It's not the brakes as I put the front wheel against a post and pushed down
Also put fingers on headstock and rocked it backwards and forwards but couldn't detect any play
Bushes didn't have signs of wear when I fitted them but they were the ones that came with the forks
Sounds like it is coming from the upper forks or headstock though, unless the sound is travelling?
Well I was going to take forks off to give the bottoms a blast with my new can of Tough black so will have to take forks apart
The clunk happens right at the beginning of travel if that's any help
Never got my head around the correct level of fork oil as in the air gap with spring out and fork compressed
What do folks do here
If I take each fork leg off then would I be able to feel the clunk just pushing one leg down at a time ?
Or is it something you can only feel on the bike because of the weight etc
just take out the wheel , remove the front fender with it's brace and release the springs. now test each fork leg seperatly just like you would test for play on the headstock bearrings.
My ultimate goal is to die young as late as possible !
Well it's back together !! Not sure if I have cured it
One thing for sure was the state of the fork oil which I guess was 4 years old but not many miles
It's one thing a lot of peeps ignore
easy fix ,if ever the bikes stripped down ish ,if you know any one with oxy acetaline ,with a very oxydising flame ,test on a bit of normal mild steel just till you get like lemonade bubbles ,once the torch is set just do a warm on the inside of the bearing cup at 12 ,6 ,3 and 9 o`clock this will shrink to take up the play ,if not enough ,let it cool ,then go inbetween where youve heated, plastic fantastic filler will always fail ,take a hour or so ,glad you sussed it out
