Aha Phil, good to here you are getting back to yours too,
I have been away with work a lot and have been fiddling with other bikes too, thats my excuse anyway.

The Aprilia is a newer shape RS125, gone to a new home now - quick little bike - the kr1s will have twice the power and only weigh a bit more - should be fun

Nothing major to report, doing a few small bits and pieces.

Have the forks packed up and ready to send to philpots,
they reckon on eight week turnaround time. must be fairly busy.

Have a spray gun ordered so the painting can get started and thats about it.

It should come together fairly quickly once everything is ready

they claim cheapest fork rechroming in the UK, 2-3 weeks and £139 inc VAT for a pair

Thats a good price and time frame Phil, But they were already gone by the time I saw your post

It was one of those key points for Pandora, I Kept putting it off because i didn't want to spend the cash - so it was a matter of just doing it and getting it over with.

I received the spray gun this week, so next step is to paint the frame and wheels.

Got some new piston and seal kits for the rear caliper and splashed out for new rear pads too

The rechromed fork tubes should be back from phillpots soon too.

Frame rubbed down and almost ready for paint



Thats about it for now, going quite slowly but will get there in the end.

Have picked this up cheap in the meantime

I can imagine it does everything it says on the tin, with no dramas.
Nearly bought one last year, 2001 I think for £2200

Instead I bought something else

work is ongoing, carbs stripped and clean, shims being done, calipers stripped for blasting and painting etc!

I needed a break from the precious "classics" and have something I wasn't too fussed about to use and abuse.

Still not much to report, I have the forks back together now and new handlebars from Philfingers.

The thing is with new parts, the old parts beside them then look really crap





The main hold up now is the paint for the wheels and frame. I need to get it done now that the weather is milder or else bring them to a painter I know and hand over a load of dosh.

A small but important repair, The little locating lug on the switchgear was broken as they are on many of these units.

It was good of KHI to leave a small pilot hole in the lug to use. I tapped a M3 thread in the housing for an allen screw.

The head needed to be filed down slightly to fit in the handlebar hole. Seems good and strong.

Excuses first, I had a major building project to do over the last year, a nice new garage to work in

I brought all the parts to my usual painter and he wasn't interested, so the parts came home and sat there for six months until the weather really picked up. I then decided to bite the bullet and get the paint and do it myself.


Happy with the finish and saved a small fortune, which is just as well because as anyone who has undertaken building work will tell you it is a black hole for cash.

This is straight from the gun, I didn't want it too shiney - just as well


I went with BMW silver 354 for the frame,

Happy with how the wheels turned out too

I don't have the cash for tyres at the minute so i am using a spare rough pair to wheel her about.

Once the frame was painted all the sub assemblies were fitted and it started to come together quickly

Pandora came with freshly painted bodywork, It's an ok job - not fantastic and a bit crap in places, but the overall look is fresh.


Got the motor in and all the cables and electrics hooked up.
Started second kick and was fluffy and unresponsive - then cut out
restarted and the same thing - hmm
After a minute of checking around I saw that some idiot (me) had put tissue in the airbox intakes to keep the dust out. These got sucked in just enough so they were hard to see
Once it had air it ran great, very surprised how well it ran.

Sounds great - like a race machine.


There are still some bits that will be cleaned up or replaced in future, If I want to use the bike this decade there are a few compromises to be made.

Painted the original calipers today, acid etch, colour and then two pack lacquer.


Have to make some fairing brackets and make a small shopping list for the big K.

Great build thread, we like pictures. Bet it was a relief when you spotted the paper tissue. Im sure you were thinking knackered carbs , jets, timing, everything but the simple stuff.

Don't feel bad about the tissue, dmac...... I once did something similar, but on a much larger engine: a 9-cylinder two-stroke turbocharged marine diesel; bore 840 mm, stroke 1,800 mm, 2,100 hp per cylinder.

By the way, I'm surprised that She Who Must Be Obeyed allows you to use the kitchen to prep the frame........

That sounds like some motor Gerrit, 84cm pistons - wow -
Bet it takes some cranking over


Have to say the bike is designed to be as simple and easy to work on as possible - it could never be described as over engineered

The coil and regulator mounting plate seems to be the only awkward part.
It's 2 or 3mm to long to fit in place with the coil fitted and tightened, By loosening the nuts there is just enough wiggle room to fit it with the coil still loosely attached.

Guess it's one of the models quirks.
