smoke out of one can

Post by nickclem »

Right then people I need a little help. My kr1-s was previously standing for about 2 years or so I’m told. I stripped the frame and wheels and had them powder coated and in my opinion it looks mint, but that’s not the important bit. I took it out for its first proper run and everything seemed fine up until I had done about 30 mile. The bike became boggy and would struggle to go past 5k rpm. When we stopped for inspection smoke only seemed to becoming out of one can. Although at that point it didn’t really seem to affect it performance that much. After doing another 15 miles or so it really got bad there were no guts in the bike and it would struggle to go past 40 mph.

power valves seem to be fine

I’ve changed the plugs from split fire back to the originals with no affect

I’ve also changed the coil pack with no difference

And I’ve also cleaned out the carbs as I thought one might have been blocked because I ran out of fuel with no difference

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Did you check/bleed the lines from the oil pump before use?

You should have bled the oil lines while running premix to ensure you got oil into the engine. If you didn't then the engine may have nipped up.

theres an 8 mill bolt in the top of the pump open it up till you see a hole drilled in the side n wait till oil comes out with no bubbles then premix a bit of fuel n run the bike and manualy turn the pump to full and watch the lines..you should c the oil making its way down them... :D

since it's been standing still for 2 years, might be a crank-seal that's gone :?

Yeah, agree with Jan, does it smoke more from the righthand cylinder?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions I’ll definitely take a look at all of them, but the more I think about it the more I feel it’s the crank seal. How big a job is this?

Dose it Idel? If it was a crank seal i would have thought it would stuggle at idel? No/YES and the problem would have reared its head from word go, a bit of heat in the engine and the seal would have gone!!! NO!!???

did you clean the carbs out?

Yeah I cleaned the carbs out. It does idle and starts first kick I need to have a good look at everything before I start taking things apart.
