clutch rattle

pull the lever in and the rattle goes away, rev passed tickover and it goes, it does nt slip whilst riding and seems fine. but dont know if a bit is worn or its normal. i bet a few of you will know. martin

normally they wear on the the teeth on the large thrust washer or the actual lever mechanism

never really heard of the rattle on a kr1 but its quite common on the ypvs. not really anything to worry about. just gone and read something on ypvs in the book by phil west and it say's ''some noises are down to clutch rattle-pull in the clutch lever and if it quietens down, no need to worry''.
on the kr, clutch slip is a problem if the obvious parts are worn ie plates and clutch drag is down do grooves in the basket(can be smoothed with a fine file and patience-something you have by the bucket load martin!!) also theclutch arm wears and this has a similar effect as elf said.

you will always hear a bit of a rattle and it will always go away slightly when pulling in the clutch...all bikes do it....
but if its noisy then you may need to inspect it...as elf said..the actuating arm can wear but the washer is the main culprit for hard to get neutral...still available from big k...i got two last month...but wont fix a rattle...gonna b wear on the splines i think....

Do you have a number for the washer, I can only get neutral when the engine is stopped, and the operation feels really sticky. Has for the rattling my 01 CBR 600 ( four stroke rubbish I know ) rattles almost as loud as a dry clutch and has done for about 5000 miles, does go away when pulled in though. Works ok with no slip so I just live with it.

following on from this fecking rattle, i have now got the clutc stripped out[surprised how easy it is] smoothed out the slight marks on the housing fingers, i have ordered a new release bearing, thrust washer and new plates, so reckon i will soon have a less noisy clutch,
but then i am a fussy bugger
got one question. i have sussed the two large washers on the cluth hub,[the flat one goes on first then the one with the angle[small diameter side against the hub, with the large diameter towards the inside[is that right
just one thing, does it matter which way the thrust washer goes in[as looking at the edge of the old one, it is angled] i am guessing the bigger diameter side goes to the inside
