Exhaust de-coke how?....

Post by Glock 19 »

Hi Guys, just after some info, is there a good way of de-coking the inside of the exhausts? i read on another thread that martin used caustic soda? but i'm not sure if it worked, or he had a problem with it, he didn't sound to pleased with the result? (maybe you could clarify it for me?) Would there be a better way to go about this task. I Know you lot will have the answer as always :) , Cheers Mark.

I used caustic soda... seemed fine... got loads of crap out... This is how I did it...

1) Drink two bottles of nice wine....   And save the corks

2) Plug the silencer end with the two corks

3) add caustic soda to water in a watering can... DO NOT add water to caustic soda, it will get very hot and give off bad fumes

4) Fill exhausts with your caustic soda solution... and leave to dissolve the crap

5) repeat points 3 and 4 until what you tip out is cleanish

Piece of cake... I wouldn;t do it in a closed area and be careful with your eyes, skin etc etc....

oh and if your on a sceptic tank, dont pour it down your drains

Should be as IIRC the endcans are steel as well, but be carefull not to dislove the exhaust packing in the cans. personnally I would put something long down the end to bloke the cans off

Hi Glock,

the best way is you come to Germany and drive with full speed over the "Autobahn".
This ist the best testet "how to decoking exhaust"

Depends on how strong you make the mix , but can take a couple of days !
And then might need to repeat the process .

The best/most dangerous way is to heat up expasion chambers so that all of the metal has been red hot, this burns and dries out the carbon which then becomes brittle and easy to remove.

You can use a handful of nuts n bolts or gravel shaken around or a piece of steel cable in the end of a drill with most of the cable inside exhaust and then spun around  (beware)

Takes a while to heat up metal with a blow torch but does a good job
