AIRRBOX FITTING WITH R6 SHOCK

Fitted a 2006 R6 rear shock a while ago whilst the engine was out for re-build. Engine back in frame now and was wondering how to modify standard airbox to clear the top of the shock.

I cant find the post, but I remember someone cut the offending area out from the airbox, and plastic welded a piece of old mudgaurd in it's place to seal it up. Made for a very neat mod and left enough room to reach all the adjustments.
The one thing you may want to do, is look at expanding the airbox into a different area to reclaim the lost volume. Apparently the reduction in airbox volume has caused some running issues on some bikes (I suspect it's mostly on higher tuned engines). Some people have moved the battery and used that space the get the volume back and others are planning to extend it to enclose the carbs (although this would likely require a lot of setting up of the jetting).
Hope this helps. Scott

I stumbled across that thread a while back - and took the liberty to download the pics. Cant find it now. But here are the pics that might help.

Think its time to get busy with the hacksaw and soldering iron! Thanks for the guidance.

KR-1R: That's the one I was thinking of.
Pretty dang professional finish as well.

it does look good!
but I would have thought that if you were going to modify the airbox, why not invest some time and improve it? Relocate the battery, increase the airbox volume and fix my biggest pet hate - make the airbox easier to remove. Anyone done this? I am considering getting someone local to fab up a fibreglass airbox to do all of this.

I was thinking of making the alloy bridge (which the tank bolts to) removable so thatthe airbox could lift straight out.

I've got to finish my new one at some point. It's a carb enclosed box that takes up all the extra space available. Plan it for to to seal on the bottom of the tank with a front air duct.
Been thinking on adding a resonate chamber, but I need to go back to basics and work out how the resonate chamber is supposed to work first

Wouldn't removing the bridge for the seat bolt remove some of the rigidity of the frame?

all you need to do to make the airbox easy to remove is cut off that thing for the overflow-tube from the battery
then you just loosen the airbox, take off the lid, move it backwards, lift up at the front and take out
