It all started just before winter (if I remember rightly) when I got the kmx out of the shed & tried to start it. The Kmx usually would start 2nd or 3rd kick but the bastard decided it just wasn't going to!
After checking all the normal stuff I then decided to do a compression test, this came in very low at 85psi, so I decided to whip the head & barrel off & thats when it all started to go tits up

The barrel was scored (quite deeply) But the piston & rings were in sound condition

Anyway, so one thing led to another & I decided to give the Kmx a bit of TLC by stripping it completely, starting with the engine, ho ho ho.
First pic, here is my scabby old Kmx (88 model)

Over the years I have picked up bits & bobs, like oil seals & gaskets etc off ebay, bloody glad I did but I wasn't expecting this-

I always thought the gear shift shaft was a little bent &

Finally, the KIPS mechanism, here is a pic of the cog, can anyone spot the problem here? Honestly, this is how it came off

It appears that the pin has been glued on(?!) Why glue the pin on here? why not put it back in its hole? Am I missing something? Bloody motorcycles!
