Kmx125 'The in the meantime project'
Posted: Thu Mar 04, 2010 9:09 pm
As i'm sitting round twiddling my thumbs, waiting for bits to come back for my Kr1 (current project) & waiting for bits for my Ke175 (long term project) to turn up on ebay etc, I decided to start work on my trusty (but completely knackered) Kmx.
It all started just before winter (if I remember rightly) when I got the kmx out of the shed & tried to start it. The Kmx usually would start 2nd or 3rd kick but the bastard decided it just wasn't going to!
After checking all the normal stuff I then decided to do a compression test, this came in very low at 85psi, so I decided to whip the head & barrel off & thats when it all started to go tits up
The barrel was scored (quite deeply) But the piston & rings were in sound condition
I hadn't touched the engine since I bought it (7 years ago?) And it had never let me down, so it seems the last owner replaced the piston etc but ignored the barrel
Anyway, so one thing led to another & I decided to give the Kmx a bit of TLC by stripping it completely, starting with the engine, ho ho ho.
First pic, here is my scabby old Kmx (88 model)

It was still running in this pic
Heres a pic of the engine minus its barrel

Over the years I have picked up bits & bobs, like oil seals & gaskets etc off ebay, bloody glad I did but I wasn't expecting this-
[img][/img]
As there was no bits of metal in the oil I drained or any bits stuck to crank cases etc, this was put back on
Oh well the bike worked yada yada.
I always thought the gear shift shaft was a little bent &

It was
Anyway positive stuff, done the switch gear, stripped back to metal, primed & tough blacked (nice & cheap
), maybe I should have cleaned the actual switches

But lets not go mad eh?
Finally, the KIPS mechanism, here is a pic of the cog, can anyone spot the problem here? Honestly, this is how it came off
[img][/img]
It appears that the pin has been glued on(?!) Why glue the pin on here? why not put it back in its hole? Am I missing something? Bloody motorcycles!
