Won't rev past 10k

Post by Lorraine »

Hi.
Right then, recently bought myself a C2 in need of some work.
The bike had been stood for sometime and the fuel had gone off in the tank.
I have changed the fuel, adjusted carbs and checked/regapped plugs.
After doing this it ran well and pulled right through to the red line.
I filled it up (first time I'd filled it) before taking it out on a decent run. Half way through the ride coolant started coming out of the overflow pipe of the expansion bottle. It then wouldn't rev past 10k.
I've re-checked plugs, bled cooling system and topped up. It now doesn't leak coolant but still won't rev past 10k. Any ideas please?
Thanks, Lorraine.

Lorraine.Did you clean the tank and tap when you got rid of the old fuel.If not you might be dragging some crud down from the tank into the carbs.

does it rev past 10k under no load (i.e. in neutral)?
Also, fuel can leave a gummy residue in the carb when left for a long time and can block jets - get some carb cleaner , a small brush and some thin wire to poke through the jets etc.

Oh, also, welcome to the forum :)

I had a look at the bike today and the air filter had dropped down over the intake rubbers inside the airbox. NO CAGE! So if anyone has a cage to sell, I'd like it please! I have made a temporary cage for it out of a metal basket so it's not ideal (not least because I have nowhere to put my hair bobbles now!) but it now revs out as it should.

Thanks to Pablo and Scooble for the suggestions.

Lols.

grab some metal rod /wire approx 2 - 3 mm diameter (cheap wire coat hanger etc) cut and bend into segments to suit requirements (like lead light window fabrication) using wire instead of lead

then take and have someone spot weld/tack all the bits together - kinda like a flat spidersweb (no photo)

the standard Kawasaki plastic filter frame is practically waste of time it can bearly stop the airfilter flexing inwards

alternatively some perforated sheet metal or flat grill mesh but I think the wire version is a better solution
