Air filter support.....

Got bored yesterday so I made a new filter support as the one in the bike was a bit dodgy. I have not been able to find a pic of what is supposed to be there so had to wait until I had a good idea on what to build. Here is what the po had installed...
Here is the new one I made up, took about an hour. Works much better. It doesn't fall in and block the intakes.

Nice job Falconman, a quick coat of paint and it will be fantastic.
The original was a plastic grate with one central rib length ways down the box (about 4mm across) and three cross ribs equally spaced along the length of a similar width.
They are not very robust.....
Yours looks much better. =D>

good job Jim
I cant take credit for this one - I inherited it - also from a Previous Owner....
here's an original KR air filter frame (complete with Armymen plastic flashing/sprues)...

...doesn't even lie flat
next to useless ... so flimsy...

WOW!

After seeing the factory version I guess I did do pretty good! I used 1/8" (just over 3mm) welding rod, cut and bent each piece then laid out on an aluminum plate to weld. Now that this one is done I can use it as a pattern to make the next one in stainless. The next time I get bored.

obviously someone that reads this forum
is nice
but how about an aluminium option for the weight conscious

Yes thought about the weight before buying mine - but it is only 2mm thick and extremely sturdy . Its very light.
Would probably be just as heavy in aluminium as the sections would probably be thicker and more restrictive for air flow.
I thought about making my own but thats a serious cutting and filing job and no way could i achieve a finish as accurate as this cnc laser cut item.

Stainless is alot lighter than mild steel. That looks like a really nice piece. =D>
