BUDGET CLASSIC RACE/TRACK BIKE BUILD: 88 KR1 250

Hi All,

I purchased an abused ex track bike that had sat idle for seven years. The bike I am told is a 88 KR1 250.

I have not ridden on the track due to the Irish economy in four years, this will be my first attempt back! =D>

So If you guys have old road spares lying round please help out, paypal waiting for cheap parts.

Ohh good god where is the powervalve motor?...whats with all the cable ties, cable tie holding the carb on....what have I bought....

Could you chance using this head?

Strange bore, liner coating? Useable?

At least one is useable

SLIGHT PITTING TO FORKS...BODGED ON CALIPERS OFF A FIREBLADE, EITHER NEW BRACKETS OR STANDARD CALIPERS NEEDED.

RESULT: HOURS OF CLEANING, AND TRIPS TO HIGH POWER DIESEL WASHER :-&

I have a tiny budget but will get there so far my needed parts list include

One piston and Rings, Gudgeon bearing.
Engine Gasket Set
3 x Powervalves, Powervalve pullies and 1 x linkage.
Exhaust Gaskets

Powervalve motor and bracket
RH Clipon
LH Rearset
Front master cylinder
Rear caliper and bracket
RH passenger footrest/exhaust hanger

All parts including the piston will have to be used for now, once up and running I will replace the forks and shocks when racing again. My budget is a wopping 200

All thoughts, comments, tips and help much appreciated.

Hi Blanc got your work cut out there looks familiar to me when i got mine as are some of the other heaps people have picked up, but never worrie you'll get all the help you need on here, just check out some of the projects and see how they have been turned into great kr1/s, no matter how dirty things get they'll always clean up, and welcome to the forum cheers wayne.

If I were you, I'd change the outer tubes off the forks to KR-1S. The calipers are a straight fit (you just need spacers for the bolts, or go one up on the thread in the calipers). Outer tubes should be cheap to find, lot's off them survive a crash while the inners don't, or forks are putted aside because off pitting, and swapped for better ones. this way, you'll have much much better brakes than putting the original calipers back on

outer tubes are interchangeable between KR1 and KR1s

sounds like a great idea to me. will take a look..By using the kr1s outer tubes will the blade calipers just bolt up?
