Only runs on prime

Post by mike916sp »

Just bought my first KR-1S and had my first ride.

I have a problem when the fuel tap is on normal or reserve. The bike starts fine on either but after about half a mile the motor dies. Switch tap to prime and it runs fine.

Any ideas. (plenty of fuel in tank and carbs have been cleaned and set up by expert).

Is the vacuum pipe from the left hand carb to the carb rubber connected?

If it is, disconnect the pipe, pull a fuel line off put the tap to on and suck on the vacuum pipe - fuel should flow. If it doesn't you have a problem probably with the diaphragm in the tap.

Hi there, I have just gone throught numerous fuel issues. The fuel tap replacement kit is available.I would remove the tap and for peace of mind replace the internals. Not an expensive exercise. If the bike has been standing for a while, one does get a build up in the fuel tap channels.Cleaning those out and with fresh o-rings etc, should give you good flow correctly.

Vacum pipe on tank and carb was connected - sucking did not get fuel to flow when switched to run. Looks like its something to do with the diaphragm.

[quote="streetfighter"] The fuel tap replacement kit is available.

Thanks Streetfighter where did you get your tap rebuild kit from?

I'll order a rebuild kit and go from there.
