what oil

Post by martin »

right then, i have a few questions on what oil to use, i have bought silkoline comp 2 plus injector 2stroke oil. is this oil any good [will it give me the best protection] or does any of you recommend another 2stroke oil :?: [running on the autolube pump]. also oil for the engine, i bought silkoline light gear oil, they also do a medium gear oil[would that be better :?: ].or would it be better to use normal 10w40 :?:

Thats what I use - mainly because its what my loacal bike shop stocks!

Exactly what I use again - simply because they said it was good - had no problems with either

I use the Silkolene pro 2 comp oil for pre mix which is expensive but very good. For gearbox oil I use Halfords own motorcycle gearbox oil.

It's Halfords mineral oil and works great. Some more expensive oils can cause clutch slip, but so far no problem with Halfords own.

I use some putoline one, can't remember which, just go into Earnshaws and buy the £12 a bottle one

I've used various gearbox oils inc silkolene gear oil and castrol gtx, think the basic rule is use a mineral oil, not a full synthetic as that will cause clutch slip.
The last time Liverpool Fc won the league, George Michael was black and Michael Jackson was straight or visa versa, it's that long ago I get confused.

havent heard of an engine mishap through lube issues for years and years. i dont know what cheap n nasty oil is like(the shit that lawnmowers and mopeds run on) but all the main brands that are intended for competition use such as puoline, silkolene, motul, motorex, rock oil, castrol(i use) etc etc. i use silkolene light gear oil but will switch to halfords mineral for above reasons. i think stan the man is an agent for silkolene and has never experienced a problem in his bikes(also used it in his team kr1/1s's when success was a regular occurance for the kr in supersports champoinship, courtesy of stans rocketship (66hp) kr's. you should be more than safe using silkolene.

What oil?

Post by BOX »

I'm glad I read this post before I started mucking around with my clutch. I put some Motul full synthetic in the gearbox and it slips like buggery, especially when cold. I'm in Adelaide Australia and don't recognise any of the oils recommended in this post. Does anyone know of an oil I can readily get in the stores around here which works well?

just buy some ordinary 15W40 engine oil for a motorbike (NOT car oil !!) and put it in.

that's what the manual says

You can buy Silkolene here in Oz. Supercheap Auto stock it, but don't know if you have them in S.A.

I don't have any experiance yet with the KR1 but in our Mito we have run Putoline TTX, Agip tec2 and now on Castrol tts. They are all very good oils but the favourite is Castrol.

I'm going to try Shell advance in the KR.

As for box oil i agree with elf, Halfords is cheap and will give better clutch performance.

gearbox oil was usually semi synth rock oil or mineral based, changed on a regular basis.

Used Sil racing oil for 2T but i dont think its made anymore so prolly go with a Rock oil racing 2T.

have used Castrol racing 2T with no probs
.
