I believe, dont mind stand being corrected on this, but its no longer available from big K. Your only option is to have the existing unit rebuilt.

your best option is BDK.

the mid part of the crank sometimes wears off and becomes useless. so you need a second crank with that part in good condition.

but BDK makes a replacement for the crank-part, only available at BDK (or you can buy one on ebay, he lists them there)

Although I didn't have these people rebuild my crank I purchased all the parts from them and they were most helpful. I tried to get hold of BDK and for several nights in a row I woke up in the middle of the night and tried ringing them with no reply. According to their web site they offer a crank rebuilding service check them out.

Yep they offer most parts but don't rebuild them. BDK are very good and do offer the centre shaft as a spare part and these are NLA from any where else in the world.

Oh well they don't rebuild cranks but they do sell all the parts (except the centre shaft) to rebuild them. Also they answer the phone and return emails which is more than what I can say for BDK.

I don't want to step on any toes here, but is there enough demand for these centre shafts for a second manufacturer on the Oz\NZ side of the world?

The bloke who already makes em can feel free to tell me to piss off, but I can make them here in Australia for a competetive price, they look a piece of piss to make, I have a full machine shop and some time.

If there's demand for half a dozen or so it would be worth my while.....

I wouldn't imagine there'd be a huge call for them. I rebuilt my crank last year and the centre pin was mint, the speedo said it had done 56,000 kms . I would say a road going bike wouldn't require as much attention as a race. How many race/road going KR1s would there be world wide?

Some points before you send your crank to whoever! My crank had a stuffed centre section and the rod rubbed against the R/H crank wheel.

Having just received my crank from Graham File. He very kindly sent me the duff parts for examination.

Below is the infamous centre section. The bearings are a press fit, usually requiring several tons. My bearing simply slides off. The centre of the bearing was spinning on the shaft.

If you look at the crank wheel the big end pin (slightly left of pen) is scored or rather a furrow, making it scrap

Graham had some used but serviceable parts in his workshop, like the centre section complete with gear and R/H crank wheel. This has saved me looking for another crank to rob bits from - if they were ok!

I just have to make the rest of the bike as good as the crank now!

I thought the same thing until I got a crank in my hand. There is not enough material to bore out the throw. It will break thru the smaller diameter section of the throw.

Can you post a pic with some dimensions attatched??? Crank pin bores should never be 'bored out' but EDM wire cut.Much more accurate and won't upset any heat treatment.
