Checked the flywheel this morning, and it's still tight as a drum, so thinking it's probably be the clutch. Took it for another run (after replacing the rear shock) and found that even just pulling the clutch in while in nuetral makes the noise go away. Also found that my tyres are a bit hard after sitting for so long, but that's got nothing to do with the clutch.
Anyway, lunch is almost ready, so time to chow down and then look into that clutch.

When the engines at idle (or below about 2k) in neutral, it sounds like someones dumped a bag of marbles in there. Put it in gear or pick the revs up and the noise disapears completely.

It's a Kawasaki not a Ducati !!!
Sounds like a standard Ducati dry clutch rattle,
1. check the gearbox oil
2. check the tabs on the clutch friction plates for wear/slop

ectually, a KR1 clutch is like a Ducati clutch, except that it's wet. But it makes the same type off noise. the clutch isn't bolted fix on the shaft, but is just held in place by the circlips. My Kr's always have made some kind of clutch noise, that disappears the moment you pull the clutch.
If the noise is too much, then there is too much wear on some part off the clutch.

Thanks for all the help here fella's.
Pulled the clutch down this morning but couldn't find any serious wear on anything so decided to swap the whole thing out with the one from the engine that donated it's gearbox, and now it's all fine. No more rattles, no more jumping out of gear, nuetral can be a bit tricky to find sometimes but no big deal.

Hi Scott,

Difficulty finding neutral is often the clutch thrust washer. It wears on one side so if you flip it over that can sort it.
